HYCC 2010

Mahwah, NJ: North East Collegiate Volleyball Association Commissioner, Michael Ricciardi, announced today that for the first time in the history of NECVA, the championship tournament moves off a college campus to a neutral location. Located in the heart of Cape Cod’s commercial hub, the Hyannis Youth and Community Center (“HYCC”) will be home to the 2010 NECVA Championship Tournament. On April 9th-11th, 16 teams will make their way to Massachusetts to compete for the championship title and the league’s automatic bid to the 2010 Molten Division III Men’s Invitational Volleyball Championship held at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Since 1995, the championship tournament has taken place on one of the conference school’s campuses, but this year, with the combined efforts of NECVA, the ECAC, Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce, the Massachusetts Sports Partnership, and local hotels including the Resort & Conference Center at Hyannis, Holiday Inn Hyannis, Radisson Hotel Hyannis, Corsair and Cross Rip, and the Cape Codder Resort, the 2010 tournament is heading to the town of Barnstable. “It is one of the most exciting collegiate post-season tournaments,” Ricciardi said. “We look forward to bringing exceptional volleyball to Cape Cod and the surrounding community. I hope everyone gets a chance to stop by and join in the fun!”

Open to the public, tickets can be purchased at the door on any day or at any time during the course of the tournament. Adults can acquire a day pass for $6 or a weekend pass (three full days) for $15, while tickets for senior citizens, children under 12, and students with ID can be purchased for $3 a day, or $6 for the weekend.

NECVA encompasses 43 Division III Men’s Volleyball Programs located across nine states, as far south as Harrisonburg, Virginia, and north to Nashua, New Hampshire. Broken into five divisions, the top two teams from each division earn an automatic bid to the 16-team bracket. Six other teams, who do not meet the criteria for an automatic bid, will receive at-large bids based on head-to-head results, win percentage against NECVA teams, results verses NECVA ranked teams, results verses common opponents, and MHPR National Power rankings. On April 3rd, the 2010 bracket will be announced commencing post-season play.
